There are many faws in this pyramid system
By Charles Weaver
These sound like a good ideal as one is always looking for a way to speed up the painting process, but as usual the devil is always in the details. And in this case it is te details that do count.
1. No matter how careful one is these items do mare even hardwoods, so expect to sand and repair.
2. When you flip that wet coat over it is almost impossible not to scratch the wet side, so paint the non-viewing side first.
3. At best this system requires a level bench as all 4 points must be contact, that also means the wood can have no warp as even a 1/16 gap on one one pyramid will cause dents on each brush stroke.
4. Second coating over a tack first coat cannot be done as the drag is enough to cause the part to move on all 4 pyramids which creates scratchs on the previous flipped wet coat.
I recommend no one should buy these thinking that one can do finish work, they may be ok for pickets on a fence or siding or decking but not finish work.

A simple, yet very helpful item
By Charles S. Holzheimer
For as long as people have been putting a finish on wood, people have been frustrated by either smudging their work by setting it down or having to wait until one side dries before adding a coat to the other. Now that these little babies are on the market you can eliminate both concerns.
Made of a non-stick plastic, they hardly ever adhere to your works. If they do, they only leave a small dimple that can easily be remedied. The tips are rounded so there is no piercing or damaging of the wood when it is set on a pyramid. The holes you see in the sides not only lighten the pyramid but also give you finger holes to move or adjust the pyramid as needed.
Yes, you can make your own version of these and they will work about as well but these are well priced and will save you the hassle of making them. I have two sets that I put to use regularly so they won't just sit on your shelf collecting dust, you will use them.

Handy! But beware of softer woods
By Justin M. James
This are really handy. I definitely liked them better than using scraps of wood, and because they have such a small surface area you could definitely use them on a freshly painted side of the piece. My only problem is that the points are so sharp, they will very likely mar a soft piece of wood if it is heavy enough. Make sure you use a lot of them to spread the load and reduce denting the wood.
